I have known women like this, women who are completely present and yet somehow always just beyond what you thought you understood about them. This painting is for them.

I have always believed we are not separate from the natural world. We are it, looking at itself. This painting began with a rose and found a woman inside it.

Entangled began as a painting about relationships and became something larger. About how everything we are is shaped by what we are bound to.

I witnessed these fishermen during my travels in East Asia and could not stop thinking about the quiet dignity of their work, the way they moved together as if the water already knew them.

I painted this thinking about the friendships that sustain a life. The figures are abstracted because what matters is not how they look but how they stand together.

I painted this during a time when hope felt necessary. The birdcage is not a symbol of confinement but of a threshold. What comes next is the painting.

Hi, I’m Vasu. I create paintings using mixed media - including acrylics, ink, charcoal, oil crayons and paper. I have been painting for about 10 years now and love the instant fulfillment that comes from completing an artwork. It’s very gratifying and gives me as much joy as I felt when a research paper was accepted by a journal in my medical career.
Inspiration
I am inspired to capture the dance and music of nature around me and during travels with light and shadow and want to impart a sense of being and transfer these experiences through my paintings. My art is constantly evolving to morph from representational to subtle or absolute abstraction on various themes I explore. I also love to portray figures, specially women as role models.
Techniques
I am predominantly a self-taught artist who paints for the pleasure of creation, hoping to share moments of emotion with those who appreciate contemporary art. I offer energetic, powerful abstract and figurative works, I love to use vibrant colors and create using acrylics and mixed media. Simple observations allow me to seek beauty in everything. I love to bring these portrayals to evoke joyous emotions and pleasure in the viewers.
